The VRC was founded by Tia Torres in the 1990s in California as a wolf/wolf hybrid rescue center. It later expanded to include pit bulls and other dogs. In 2011, the VRC relocated to New Orleans, Louisiana, due to financial and legal issues in California.

Tania Torres has been helping her mother at the VRC since she was a child. She has a passion for animals and a special bond with pit bulls.
