How Matt Raney became a part of the Homestead family business?

Matt is the youngest of four children from his parents. All of his older siblings are sisters-Melanee,  Miles, and Misty Raney. They grew up in unspoiled Alaska often lacking power, water, plumbing, or heat. As a young kid, Matt spent much of his life on his uncle’s farm and spent several Alaskan Winters living in “dry” cabins. Matt used those early years learning the homestead life and the essence of teamwork. He grew around the family house-building business  “Alaska Stone and Log,” and eventually join the team. Experience with the wild:

As one of the new generation of hunters, Matt is now responsible for providing meat for his family. This has taken him across the dense jungles of Alaska. An expert tracker and hunter, Matt is often seen either hunting or teaching others how to hunt. When asked about his hunting experience in the Alaskan region, Matt explains,

“I’ve had encounters with Bears, Wolves, and run naked with the Caribou. Our family has embraced a lifestyle of subsistence. Through all the years our only objective has been to fill out a freezer full of Salmon, Halibut, Caribou, Doll Sheep, and Moose. We’ve had good years and bad, but I can’t remember the last time I ate at a fast food place or bought meat from a market.”

Life in Alaska:

Born and raised in Alaska Matt has barely left the continent and likes his livelihood. Similar to his father and sister, Matt is grateful for the Alaskan continent and how it has shaped his way of life. Matt received education on animal husbandry and farming from a young age. While much of what Matt learned can be directly traced back to his father, he did spend some time with his uncle to learn more about the tricks of the trade. A hunter and provider, Matt is known to hunt in abundance. In the summer of 2015, Matt brought home 1000 pounds of fish, Moose, Caribou, and Sheep. The meat is shared between the family and is preserved to make sure it lasts through the winter. Apart from survival skills, Matt also picked music side from his father who would play guitar and sing songs. Matt learned to play guitar and ukulele and joined his father during the event performance.
