They often say that the fruit never falls far from the tree. This is especially true for the Raney family where two generations of people are involved in the homestead business. Matt Raney is one of the new generations of housebuilders, who is looking to carry on the family name. One of the four children of the legendary homestead builder Marty Raney, Matt is joined by his sister and father in his endeavors. A hunting specialist, Matt has polished the skills imparted by his father and has even exceeded Marty in several accounts. In this article, we take a closer look at the wiki-bio of Matt Raney.
Experience with the wild:
As one of the new generation of hunters, Matt is now responsible for providing meat for his family. This has taken him across the dense jungles of Alaska. An expert tracker and hunter, Matt is often seen either hunting or teaching others how to hunt. When asked about his hunting experience in the Alaskan region, Matt explains,
“I’ve had encounters with Bears, Wolves, and run naked with the Caribou. Our family has embraced a lifestyle of subsistence. Through all the years our only objective has been to fill out a freezer full of Salmon, Halibut, Caribou, Doll Sheep, and Moose. We’ve had good years and bad, but I can’t remember the last time I ate at a fast food place or bought meat from a market.”
Life in Alaska:
Matt Raney was born and raised in Alaska. He has barely left the continent and likes his livelihood. Similar to his father and sister, Matt is grateful for the Alaskan continent and how it has shaped his way of life. Born in 1982, Matt received education on animal husbandry and farming from a young age. While much of what Matt learned can be directly traced back to his father, he did spend some time with his uncle to learn more about the tricks of the trade. A hunter and provider, Matt is known to hunt in abundance. In the summer of 2015, Matt brought home 1000 pounds of fish, Moose, Caribou, and Sheep. The meet is shared between the family and is preserved to make sure it lasts through the winter.
Life as a hunter:
Matt often hunts with his father Marty and a pair of pack mules. He prefers the company of his sister while fishing. The pair share a loving relationship which is showcased every time Misty makes the journey back to Alaska to spend the summer. While Matt is often known for his hunting prowess, he is not a shabby homebuilder either. As a young kid, he spent much of his life on his uncle’s farm and spent several Alaskan Winters living in “dry” cabins.
Personal Life: Matt married to Katie Raney
As the heir to the Raney’s homestead business, Matt is good at what he does. He is married to Katie and the pair wed on May 2, 2016. While Matt is looking to build a self-sufficient homestead in the near future, he now lives in a semi-temporary house. Matt is close to his family and is planning to build a homestead nearby.
In the years together as a married couple, Matt and Katie extend the bloodline with an offspring. The couple gave birth to their only children, a baby boy in 2018.
Born to parents Marty Raney and Mollee Roestel, Matt is the youngest of siblings: Melanee, Miles, and Misty Raney. They grew up in the unspoiled nature of Alaska often lacking power, water, plumbing, or heat. And spend early years learning the family house building trade: “Alaska Stone and Log”. Instead of looking for modern materials, the Raney family craftmanship theme is to use stone, logs, and natural materials around Alaska. All siblings are master climbers and said to have climbed Mt Denali, the biggest mountain in North America standing with a height of 20, 320 ft.
Melanee is the eldest and technically a Canadian due to her birth in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada. Melanie has three children with her husband Ari Ben Stiassny. The couple co-runs raft & canoe adventure during summers. Not much is known of second-born Miles, besides the fact he has always family homestead business to count on. The third and fourth, Misty and Matt features in Discover show “Homestead Rescue” which has completed six seasons as of 2020.
