The Raney family are a close bunch. And while much of their closeness can be attributed to the way of life they chose, it is also down to each individual. Led by the homestead expert Marty Raney, the family lives in the far-off land in Alaska. Misty is one of the two children of Marty who followed him into the homestead business. A farmer, homestead builder, and Carpenter by trade, Misty loves the creative process behind the building. While she is also equally in love with swinging a hammer, she enjoys building things from small resources.
Misty Raney was born on the 9th of November 1979, in Sitka, Alaska. The third born of Marty Raney and Mollee Raney, Misty spent much of her early life in Alaska. As a young kid, Misty loved art and craft and was into the carpeting. She had her father and siblings to look up to and would often follow them around. As a result, Misty became someone who could build almost everything that was required for a homestead.
Shaped by Alaska:
As someone who has spent almost all her life in Alaska, Misty is grateful for the adverse conditions. She believes that it is these conditions that shaped her creativity, will, and determination. Misty shares her father’s determination and skills when it comes to building homesteads. When asked about her experience in Alaska, Misty comments,
“I love to swing a hammer and to construct things from a few simple materials. It’s weird, but I do. Anything to do with the building, gardening, livestock, hunting, accessing water, and more, my family thrives in helping others get a handle on their own situation. Alaska keeps us tough”.
Craftmanship runs in Raney household and Misty and her younger brother Matt Raney are carrying the family torch. While not much is known about her older brother Miles, her older sister Melanee runs raft & canoe adventure business during summers. Misty works as a master carpenter in the family-owned “Alaska Stone and Log.” Spearhead by patriarch Marty Raney, the business has been ongoing ever since she was a child. And the youngest Matt plays a big part in their building projects.
Misty Raney is a married woman. She is happily married to Maciah Bilodeau and the pair are living together in Hawaii. The pair migrate to Alaska during the spring and head back to Hawaii for the winter. As a result, the pair are constantly traveling between the two states. The pair also have a baby boy, Gauge Raney. The pair have been together ever since 2000 and are currently entering 20 years of togetherness. They own an 800 square foot cabin in Hatcher Pass, Alaska. They built the homestead from ground-up, even though they had significant help from the family. Misty loves hunting and joins her brother in Annual hunting expeditions.
