Early Life

Leanne Ford was born on the 29th of June 1981 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Leanne is the second child of the family born to Jackie Ford and Mike Ford. She has a sister called Michelle Ford, and a brother Steve Ford who is a carpenter and works alongside her as a contractor. “I mean, I guess if I really dive into that question, it would have to be my mom! Even though our style has never been similar, she always had the house beautifully decorated and it was always very well put together. I think I appreciated and noticed that, and wanted to do the same in my own home.”

Professional Career

For the longest time, Leanne Ford worked in fashion and was quite good at her job. She worked around Los Angeles, New York, and Nashville in the fashion industry. When it comes to renovation, things took off for Leanne after she renovated a 1907 schoolhouse in her hometown. Leanne paired up with her brother Steve, who worked as a carpenter and contractor and created a master bath from a grungy schoolhouse attic. It was quite the transformation and Leanne’s work was featured in several design books including Country Living. While the bathroom was Leanne’s first renovation work, it introduced her to the world of white-on-white and shaped her style right from the get-go.

Since then, Steve and Leanne have combined to form a dynamic duo of design and renovation. In 2016, Leanne and Steve were approached by HGTV to work on a brand new series. Entitled Restored By The Fords, the series provided a platform for Leanne to exercise her trademark white-on-white. The series ended after two seasons in 2018. Leanne also appeared in other HGTV shows, such as Brother vs. Brother, Rock the Block, A Very Brady Renovation and Building Brady. The exposure and television fame helped Leanne gain some deals with brands. In February 2020, Leanne signed an exclusive partnership with Crate and Barrel, which would serve as the sole carrier of her collection of furniture, decor, and bedding.

In 2021, she and Steve launched a spin-off show called Home Again with the Fords, where they helped people move back to their hometowns and update their childhood homes.

An Author

Following the immense success of their show, Leanne and Steve sat down to write a book about their experiences. Entitled Work in Progress: Unconventional Thoughts on Designing an Extraordinary Life, the book shares the experiences of the brother-sister duo. Talking about her book, Leanne revealed,

“It’s interesting, writing it with your brother. We’re very different when it comes to where we find happiness and enjoyment, and we have different styles of living in general. But we had the same childhood. At first, it was a challenge to figure out how to combine it all in a book. But it turned out to be a fun exercise in breaking it all down and finding where we most crossed paths.”
