Early Life:

Brittany Wagner was born on November 15, 1977, in Clinton, Mississippi, United States. Born into a sporting family, Brittany followed her parents into sports and started young. She attended Clinton High School, where she pursued her sporting interests and was part of the female soccer team. After matriculation in 1996, Brittany joined Samford University but in the middle of her Bachelor’s education, she transferred to Mississippi State University. There she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Sports Communication (class of 2002) followed by a Master’s degree in Sports Administration (class of 2004).

Professional Career:

Brittany took up the role in the athletics department at Jacksonville State University in 2002. Then Brittany worked in the position of athletic academic counselor at Mississippi State University starting from 2004 until 2008. Britanny then moved to East Mississippi Community College and continued working as an athletic instructional advisor. Throughout her career, Britanny worked to make sure that college football players didn’t neglect the academic side of their studies. This encouraged her to launch the Gradesfirst project in 2014. The project focused on helping students succeed academically.

Last Chance U:

Brittany’s only acting stint was in the 2016 Netflix mini-series, Last Chance UCentered around college football teams that aren’t major programs and don’t get much national attention, the series offered viewers a peak into the daily life and struggle of students as they try to rise as professionals. The five-season series won the Sports Emmy Award for Outstanding Serialized Sports Documentary. Even though Brittany did not win any awards personally, the role brought her worldwide recognition and one specific quote from the show “Do you have a pencil?” became a catchphrase. Inspired by the quote she launched her own company, “Ten Thousand Pencils,” in the fall of 2017. Through her company, she put a specific focus on at-risk student and athletic programs and travels across the United States as a motivational speaker. She also acts as a consultant for K-12 schools and universities. 

Life following Stardom:

Following her success, she was called in for interviews on several television shows and printed media including ABC’s Nightline, The Dan Patrick Show, GQ Online, The New York Times, The New York Daily News, The Boston Globe, The Miami Herald, and on countless radio talk-show hosts from coast to coast. In September 2021 she wrote her first book “Next Chance You.” In the fall of 2022, she started working in the position of Director of the Grainger Center for Professional Development at the University of Montevallo. Prior to this, she was an adjunct professor teaching sports management courses at UM.

Personal Life:

While Brittany likes to keep details of her personal life a secret, she has revealed quite a few things. The 45-year-old was married to Mark White. The pair met at the Eastern Mississippi Community College where Mark served as the head basketball coach. After getting hitched, the pair shared the parenting of a daughter, Kennedy Grier. It is not known how long the marriage lasted. Neither Mark nor Brittany went on to reveal the reason behind their divorce. Before marrying Brittany, Mark was a divorcee and had a son named Cade from a previous relationship.

Life after divorce:

Brittany is yet to get married following the divorce while Mark has chosen to live a low-key life which makes it hard to keep track of his current affairs. Brittany as a single mother raises her daughter Kennedy. When not tending to the family affair, Brittany finds herself busy with her professional endeavors which include helping youth to nurture their talents and risked-kids to turn their corners around.
