Since the breakout hit ‘Wolf of the Wall Street’, Margot Robbie has enjoyed a series of different roles and is Hollywood’s hot property at the moment. While most of what Robbie has done over the years has been on every news portal imaginable, her personal life remains a well-guarded secret. The A-list actor has rarely talked about her husband and while a few snippets of the pair’s antics end up on Instagram, not much is known about Tom Ackerley. Unlike Robbie, Ackerley works on the creative side of filmmaking and has worked on different roles over the years. So, for this article, we will take a closer look at the wiki-bio of Tom Ackerley.
Tom Ackerley was born on the 1st of January, 1990, in Surrey, England. Born and raised in Surrey, Tom is the only child in the family and spent most of his early life with his father, who worked as a real estate agent, and mother who worked as a local nurse. As a young kid, Ackerley was interested in a host of things from football, to drama, to golf. While he played football as a young child, he ended up switching to drama when he was in high school and took up golf later. Following his graduation from high school in 2008, Ackerley enrolled at Godalming College in Surrey, from where he graduated with a Bachelor’s in Arts degree in theatre in 2012.
While still at college, Ackerley began working in several projects in Hollywood at different capacities. In 2011, he took up the role of Floor Runner for the TV series, The Hour, and worked for a total of four episodes. He also played the part of crowd runner for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy in 2011 and worked as floor runner for Big Fat Gypsy Dancer, Now Is Good, and Gambit. In 2012, following his graduation, Ackerley took on the role of third episode director for one of the episodes of the TV series, Playhouse Presents. He continued with his directorial work and was promoted to the first assistant director for the movie Final Prayer. Over the years, Ackerley has worked in directorial capacity in a number of movies including, The Last Days on Mars (2013), The Two Faces of January (2014), Da Vinci’s Demons (2014), Pride (2014), Everly (2014), Suite Francaise (2014), American Odyssey (2015), Yussef is Complicated (2015), MI-5 (2015), Macbeth (2015), and The Brothers Grimsby (2016).
Ackerley’s debut as a producer came in 2017, in the movie I, Tonya. Since then, he has worked on movies including, Terminal (2018), Dreamland (2019), Promising Young Woman (2020), Maid (TV-Series, announced for 2021), Tank Girl (announced), and Barbie (announced).
Tom Ackerley is happily married to Margot Robbie and the pair have been together for more than five years. The pair first met on the set of Suite Franchise in 2014 and formed a tight-knit friendship which eventually turned into romance. While the pair wanted to keep things under wraps, things didn’t go according to the plan. Talking to The Guardian, Robbie revealed,
“We kept it a secret. Because we weren’t really taking it seriously. ‘Oh, whatever, we’re just mates, we’re just mates.’ And then … everyone found out. It was dramatic. I’m not going into the details, but shit hit the fan. Our house turned into The Jerry Springer Show for a moment there. But then the dust settled, and it was all good.”
The pair tied the knot in 2016 in a private ceremony in Australia. And while the pair do not have children as of now, Robbie has been quite vocal about her desire to be a mother. As for their relationship, the pair love to keep things under wraps.
