Professional Career:

Much of what Womer has done over the years has been closely tied to her relationship with Jim Carrey. During her early years, Womer started working as a cocktail waitress at the comedy store on Sunset Boulevard. Despite working as a cocktail waitress, Womer was granted the opportunity to perform at open mic nights, something that helped her build confidence and move forward as a comic. She made her on-screen debut in the movie, Petrocelli in 1984. But despite landing a debut role and nailing it, Womer’s career never took off. She was last seen on the big screen in the  1999 movie, Man on the Moon.

Besides acting, Womer also invested herself in production. Her first work behind the scenes was as a producer for the movie, Real Stories of the Donut Men which was released in 1997. Her career never took speed and while Womer was executive producer for The Yesterday Show with John Kerwin, which aired for 1 season, things never worked out for her.

Personal Life:

Melissa Womer was previously married to Jim Carey. The pair first met at a comedy store in 1986. At the time, Carey was unknown to the media and was making just around USD 150 a week. While Womer worked two jobs to support the family and her then-boyfriend’s career. The pair tied the knot on the 28th of March 1987. Six months after their marriage, the pair welcomed their daughter, Jane Erin Carrey, who was born on the 6th of September. The pair called things off in 1995 and underwent a messy divorce. It got to a point when Carrey flat-out denied Womer’s help in building his career and the pains she went through. And while Carey moved on with his life, Womer struggled to come to terms with it.

“I wake up every day in shock that he is doing this. This is a man I went to church with, a man who used to have lunch with our minister.’ Just before he left to do ‘Ace Ventura,’ he celebrated our sixth anniversary by renting the ballroom of the Peninsula Hotel. He hired a band and had just one table put in – for the two of us.”

Following the divorce, Womer disappeared from the media with her daughter, Jane Erin Carrey, who is trying to make things work as an actress.
