Darlene Rodriguez (née Pomales) was born on the 8th of June 1970. Born and raised in Bronx, New York, Darlene comes from a Puerto Rican descent. Darlene attended Christopher Columbus High School and went off to the University of Miami in 1988. Graduating with a degree in Political Science and Broadcast Journalism in 1992, Darlene started to work for her career in Journalism.

Professional Career:

During the mid-90s, Darlene was invited to work for BronxNet Community Television. After spending a year with the local news channel, she moved to the WCBS Newsradio 88 station. Enjoying a four-year stay as the general assignment reporter, Darlene quit the radio station and decided to work for the NBC network. 

She joined the NBC 4 New York and the WNBC and started making waves around the industry. Impressed with her work as a reporter, the producers of the show promoted Darlene to the position of co-anchor in 2003. She was then featured on the morning show Today In New York alongside Michael Gargiulo. Alongside her work as a co-anchor, Darlene also filled in for the NBC news and morning television, The Today Show. In her time, Darlene covered several high profile cases including the 9/11 terror attack, police shooting of Amadou Diallo in 1999, Pope Francis’ visit to Cuba, Catholic Church’s sex abuse scandal, and many others.

Good work is automatically followed by recognition. Darlene’s contribution to the field of journalism didn’t go unnoticed. She was awarded the 2000 Latina Excellence Award and the 2011 ‘Mujeres Destacadas (Distinguished Women) Award. Her work has also been celebrated by the New York Police Department, the City of New York, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the NYPD’s Hispanic Society, the City of White Plains, and the Bronx Borough President for her journalistic efforts, and representing the Hispanic community.

Personal Life:

Darlene is happily married to David Rodriguez. David served at the New Rochelle Police department. The pair met during their early years and were married in 2000. The couple is blessed with two lovely children. A son David Jake Rodriguez, born in February 2001, and a daughter Natalia Rodriguez, born in February 2003. The family of four currently reside in Westchester County, New York.

In 2008, David was accused of raping and sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl. And while David claimed not-guilty at first he later stated that while he had sexually assaulted her there was no rape. David was handed one-year probation with a five-year restraining order from the girl. Believing on her husband, Darlene stood by his side throughout the trial.
