Troy Landry and Pickle Wheat Spear Gators in No-Gun Zone | Swamp People S16E6

In Swamp People Season 16, Episode 6, titled “Feeding Frenzy,” which aired on February 6, 2025, Troy Landry and Pickle Wheat face a unique challenge: hunting alligators without firearms. After Hurricane Francine disrupts the season, the swampers are in a rush to fill their tags in one of the few unaffected zones. But the catch? It’s a no-firearms area nestled near a high-end residential community, forcing Troy and Pickle to rely on a more primitive method: the spear.

Spear in Hand, Tags to Fill

With guns off the table, Troy brings a handcrafted spear made by his brother. It’s a nod to old Cajun and indigenous hunting techniques, but it’s new territory for the seasoned hunter. Pickle takes the line, and Troy takes the blade.

“I’m just hoping you don’t stab me in the neck with it,” Pickle jokes.

Their first encounter ends with a bent blade but a successful harvest: a seven-foot gator subdued by spear. It’s slow, risky, and physically demanding work, but it pays off.

Trial, Error, and Near Misses

The pair face challenges throughout the day. One gator manages to escape with a catfish jugline in its mouth, reminding them of the risks and unpredictability of hand-to-hand gator combat. Despite the setback, Troy is impressed by the area’s abundance of gators and commits to seeing the hunt through.

“This thing did the job. It’s bent, a little crooked… but it worked.”

A Spear-Point Finale

They finish strong with an eight-foot gator, making it number 16 for the day. The exhausting but rewarding hunt proves that traditional tools can still get the job done.

“You with a spear ain’t like you with a gun,” Pickle tells Troy.

Despite a few scares and a lot of sweat, the duo fills their boat and makes the area safer for nearby residents.
