Rosie Mercado was born on the 28th of March 1980 in Riverside, California, the daughter of Jose Mercado and Elena Mercado. When Rosie was quite young, her family moved to Las Vegas where a young Rosie grew up. She attended the Bishop Gorman High School before moving on to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. During her time in high school, Rosie struggled with her weight and was bullied because of it. As one of the five Latinos who attended the school, Rosie felt she didn’t fit in. She was often teased by her peers and was called names due to her weight. After graduating with a degree in Business Management from the University of Nevada, Rosie began working in the fashion industry.
Within four years of graduating from college, Rosie made a name for herself in the fashion industry. She began her career as a photographer but struggled to get top models. Many photographers told Rosie that she had a beautiful face and could do modeling if she lost some weight. Dejected, Rosie decided to make a name for herself in media. While she had already done media works from the time she was 15, she got her big break when she started working for Telemundo and Univision. She would go to red carpets and take interviews of high profile Latino celebrities. Her reality TV appearance came in the form of National Geographic’s TV series, Taboo. Since then she has starred in the reality series, Curvy Girls and is currently associated with another reality series, Face The Truth. She is also an author and has a new book coming out in 2020 entitled, The Girl with the Self Esteem Issues.
Shedding the extra pound:
As the years continued, Rosie gained more weight and at one point was well over 400 pounds. This gave birth to several issues the most prominent of which became mobility. Chosen as the face of Full Figured Fashion Week in 2010, Rosie weighed around 350 pounds during the time. By the end of 2012, Rosie weighed half the number and was around 178 pounds. She now actively promotes a healthy diet and motivates women to lose weight. She has made further progress and has managed to wiggle down to 160 pounds.
Second time the charm:
As they say second time the charm, Rosie is married to entrepreneur and business owner Gilberto Flores. The couple met back in the school days. Although the romance could not flourish at the time they got the second chance two decades later. Rosie and Flores got married in a Las Vegas wedding ceremony on February 9, 2019. Nearly a year later the couple gave birth to their first child Emiliano Flores in 2020.
Before this Rosie was married to Kirby Braden Mercado from 1998 to 2009. She gave birth to three children during her first marriage. She has a lovely daughter who was born in 2000 and two sons born in 2006 and 2007. In 2013, Rosie attended and graduated from the Tony Robbins Mastery University.
