As one of the first big streamers on Twitch, Reckful was partly responsible for the fame Twitch has achieved today. Not only was the Israeli-American a well-known Twitch streamer but also a professional e-sports player who was well known for his achievements in World of Warcraft and Asheron’s Call. But for all his accolades, Reckful committed suicide on the 2nd of July, 2020, at just 31 years of age. Tributes poured in for the late streamer from in and around the gaming community. Early Life:
Byron Daniel Bernstein was born on the 8th of May 1989 into a Jewish family. Born in Los Angeles, California, Byron is the son of Itamar and Judith Bernstein. Byron had two brothers, Gary and Guy. The oldest of the siblings, Guy Bernstein, committed suicide in July of 1995. Byron broke the news to his followers via a YouTube video and went on to say that the event had a huge impact on his life. Little is known about Byron’s academic associations. He enjoyed gaming from a young age and loved competing with other players.
Professional Career:
A life-long World of Warcraft fan, Byron entered into the world of esports, in 2009 with Complexity Gaming. He was ranked 3rd Place in MLG Dallas 2009 championship and 2nd in MLG Orlando championship. After a disappointing 2nd Place at the MLG Columbus 2010, Reckful took the title for the 1st Place int MLG Washington DC 2010. He also tried his mettle in Hearthstone esports and secured at 3rd–4th Place at the 2013 Innkeeper’s Invitational.
While Byron loved to compete in Esports, his major achievements have come in twitch and streaming. In World of Warcraft, Byron finished rank one online for six seasons in succession and was also the first player to reach 3000 ratings. Following his 2010 win at the MLG in Washington, Byron released the gaming movie Reckful 3. Since it’s release, the game has reached one million views within a week and has over six million views as of July 2020.
Byron also won the WarcraftMovies top skilled contest in 2011, the same year the movie was released. In 2012, Byron was announced as a developer, operations manager, and concept designer at Feenix, which produces high-quality gaming mouse. YouTube came later for Byron who started his channel in October of 2012 and uploaded his first video in November entitled, Reckful 5 stack Taste for Blood. Byron was also ranked fourth in The Gazette Review‘s list of top ten richest streamers. A lifelong poker fan, Bryon also played poker and entered the 2016 Unibet Open London main event, but was knocked out early.
Byron was also huge on charity and participated regularly on charity events, played in a charity poker event sponsored by PokerGO. His May of 2018, Byron began releasing a podcast entitled Tea Time with Byron, which features long-form interviews with notable guests in the gaming and streaming communities such as Pokimane and Hikaru Nakamura. As of 31st March 2020, a total of six episodes were released on YouTube channel.
Personal Life:
Byron was in a relationship with Blue Goes Mew. However, the pair broke up in 2019, and a year later, Byron committed suicide. He passed away on July 2, 2020. Following his suicide, tributes poured in from fans from all around the world.
