Growing up, few people would have thought that Liberte Chan would take up journalism. After all, the meteorologist was a competitive figure skater and was ranked nationally in both singles and pairs. She had all the skills to go pro with figure skating and no one would have been surprised had she chosen to do so. But Liberte took a hard turn and decided to pursue higher education with a degree in journalism and work as a meteorologist. Liberte Chan was born on the 16th of June, in the early 1990’s. Born to a Chinese mother and Caucasian father, Liberte comes from a mixed ethnicity. However, she took to both cultures with equal enthusiasm and is well versed in both of them. The youngest of three siblings, Liberte spent most of her early life with her two older brothers, Randy and Cory.
As a young kid, and during her teenage years, Liberte was a competitive figure skater. She was ranked in both singles and pairs and was quite good at the sport.
After graduating from a local high school, Liberte enrolled at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. She sought to further her studies and decided to enroll at Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. She graduated with a master’s degree in Public Health and also earned a certification in broadcast journalism from UCLA, around the same time. It was until the early 2010’s, that Liberte decided to go for her certificate in meteorology. She earned her certificate from the Mississippi State University in August of 2015.
Liberte Career began at the KTLA 5. During her early years, Liberte got the chance to work under the legendary, Hal Fishman. Liberte began working as a writer for Fishman’s one-hour news show KTLA 5 News at 10.
However, after a couple of years at KTLA, in 2005, Liberte left the network in search of better opportunities. Liberte moved to the Santa Barbara County and started working on the Central Coast. Even though Liberte began reporting for KCOY-TV/KKFX-TV, something didn’t sit well within her. From 2008-2010, Liberte also worked as a reporter and morning anchor at KMIR 6 News. After a couple of years at the Barbara County, Liberty decided to move back to KTLA 5. She made the switch in 2010 and has been working with them ever since.
In 2016, Liberte was involved in a small incident that was later labeled, Sweatergate. While Liberte was on-air, Chris Burrous handed Liberte a sweater to cover her a short dress. While at first, the network mentioned that they had received complaints about her dress, Chris later revealed it to be a joke. But Liberte saw the funny side of it and decided not to pursue the matter further.
Liberte Chan was married to the American actor, Brian Chase. The pair had a secret wedding sometime around mid-2012. However, the pair divorced sometime during 2017. Though Liberte was believed to be dating yoga instructor Brett Hoebel currently she is in loving relationship with Luis Strohmeier who is also a Wealth Advisor at Octavia Wealth Advisors.
