Dr. Amy Hutcheson had always wanted to be a vet. When Amy was relatively young, her parents brought in a bad brunt kitten. Born and raised in Chicago, Amy loved her own company. Always the quiet kid, Amy often struggled to adapt to the fast-paced life in Chicago. As a result, she developed a long-lasting bond with animals. Her love for animals only grew when her parents brought home a burnt cat. Amy nursed the injured cat back to health which ignited her dream of working as a vet doctor. As a young kid, Amy loved watching Animal Planet’s Animal Cops. The series which ran for 10 seasons, documented the endeavors of the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Meeting Dr. Jeff:

After graduating from Hinsdale South High School, Amy decided to take a break from the hectic city life. She packed her bags and decided to see America. Moving away from her hometown Amy applied to Clemson University in South Carolina where she studied Animal and Veterinary Sciences. The University offered her the chance to work with animals while working on her personal projects. After graduating from Clemson University, Amy enrolled at the Vet school at the University of Tennessee. There she received her DVM degree in 2014.

Freshly out of college Amy had a chance to pursue a veterinary career in her hometown but instead, she moved to Colorado. Amy drove around and was introduced to Planned Pethood Plus. She immediately fell in love with the clinic, its location, and what it stood for. She seemingly walked in and started talking with Dr. Jeff. The doctor was impressed by Amy’s personality and work ethic and hired her after a few days.

Learning from the Master:

Dr. Jeff Young is one of the best vet doctors in all of America. As a young and inspiring doctor, Dr. Young was a perfect mentor for Dr. Amy. While Dr.Amy was impressed with Dr.Young’s skill and efficiency, Dr. Young was impressed with Amy’s worth-ethic. Quick on the uptake, Amy never stopped learning. She started working in the clinic in 2014 and in eight years, she has established herself as one of the best doctors in the clinic. Never the one to be conceited, Amy always kept her head down and learned from the veteran doctors.

When asked about her work life with Dr. Jeff, Amy replies, “At this clinic, they sort of just throw you into the mix really quick. It’s either sink or swim.”

Even though Amy admits that life in the clinic can be hard, she is more than eager to take on the challenge. Under the careful tutelage of Dr. Jeff Young and the excellent resources at her disposal, Dr. Amy is sure to blossom into one of the best doctors around.

Television Show:

Working as the staff of Planned Pethood Plus Amy was presented with the opportunity to explore a reality television career. She joined the cast member of “Dr. Jeff: Rocky Mountain Vet” as a rookie vet and surely she is no longer a rookie after working eight years with Dr. Jeff. Amy also appeared in the spinoff Dr. Jeff: Double Dose. Amy has never won any awards or nominations for her contribution to the reality television world.
