Early Life

Shamari Jaqua Fears was born on the 22nd of February 1980 in Detroit, Michigan. Growing up, Sharami had an affinity for music and started honing her skills in several instruments. After passing her matriculation from a local high-school, Shamari enrolled at Georgia State University (GSU) and graduated with a degree in Psychology. After graduating from University, Shamari wanted to make it out as a musician and started working in the field of music.

The Big-Break

In 1996, Shamari was contacted by Lisa Lopes who introduced her to Brandi Williams and Natina Reed. Lopes, of course, was at the peak of the music industry with the hit girl group, TLC. Williams, Reed, and Fears formed a new band which was called Blaque in the US and Blaque Ivory outside the states. A year later, the group made their first appearance on the music video “Not Tonight” by Lil’ Kim. They released their debut album two years later and sold over 1.5 million copies.

With the bands’ popularity on a rise, Faris was starting to get noticed by musicians around the world. From 1999 to 2004, the band released hit singles and toured around the world. However, things toppled down after 2004, when the band announced a five-year hiatus. The group disbanded in 2007 and although it made an appearance in 2012, the comeback was unsuccessful due to the untimely death of Natina Reed. Even though Faris still performs with her fellow member Williams, the pair is more of a combo than a band. The due also released a new single entitled, Love Comes Through, on the 7th of December, 2018.

Life On-Screen

Alongside her budding career in the music industry, Shamari also worked in few movies. She made successive appearances in the 2000’s movie Bring It On and the 2003 release, Honey. Shamari was also cast in the 11th season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. She joined the reality series in November of 2018. However, on September 26, 2019, she decided to quit RHOA after one season because she wanted to have more control over her image and focus on her personal and professional goals.

Why did Shamari Fears leave The Real Housewives of Atlanta?

Shamari Fears appeared on the eleventh season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta (RHOA). However, she did not return for the twelfth season of the popular reality show. She left the show due to personal reasons and dissatisfaction with how she was portrayed by the editing. She claimed that the producers focused on her drinking habits and made her look like a drunk, while ignoring other aspects of her life, such as her marriage, motherhood, and music career. She also said that they cut out a scene that showed her and her husband Ronnie DeVoe attending a couples workshop to improve their relationship. She felt that the show did not reflect her true personality and balance. She denied the rumors that she was fired from the show and said that it was her choice to leave.
