After finishing high school, Todd started working for BP in the North Slope oil fields of Alaska. However, when Sarah was elected as the Governor of Alaska, Todd resigned from his position to avoid a conflict of interest. This resignation came when his employer became involved in natural gas pipeline negotiations with his wife’s administration. As a result, Todd was forced to leave his position as production supervisor, a position he had spent the last 18-years in. The resignation laster for 7 months and Todd once again joined the BP. The decision came in the wake of an income shortage for his family. However, to avoid conflict of interest he accepted a non-management position as a production operator.
