Robert Hawking was born in the United Kingdom in May 1967 to Stephen Hawking, a theoretical physicist, and Jane Wilde Hawking, an author. Among three children from his parents, only Robert showed interest in science and hoped to become a scientist like his father. But his ambition changed as he got in college. He attended the prestigious ‘University of Oxford’ graduating there in software engineering.

Robert grew close to his family especially his father. He would take care of Stephen Hawking who was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in 1963, at the age of 21, by 1969 he was forced to use a wheelchair.  Robert hasn’t shared much about his early years however according to Jane Hawking she praised him for being a caring son. Before her memoir “‘Travelling to Infinity” was published she said,” he (Robert) had to do things for his father that children really shouldn’t have to do.”
