Jillian Fink is the go-to person if you don’t want an A-Z make-up tutorial that is so hard that you need to review each step just to make sure you got it right. Fink is best known for her lazy girl style of make-up where she tries to combine several products to make sure that her customers can get the best make-up in the least amount of time. And while Fink rose to fame following her marriage to Patrick Dempsey, she has enjoyed a vastly different career than the actor.
Jillian Fink was born on the 4th of February 1966, in Texas. Born in Texas, Finked moved to Los Angeles with her family and spent most of her early life in the city. While not much is known about her parents but her relationship with her sister, Kristin Fink Mason, has been highlighted on a number of occasions.
Fink was interested in make-up from a very young age and by the time she was 14, Fink was working at a salon while selling private-label lash conditioning oil at school. While she tried college after high school, Fink moved across town and began studying at the Charles Ross School of Hair Design in West Hollywood. Talking about her early choice, Fink revealed,
“At some point, I realized I had to choose. I chose makeup because I liked painting faces.”
Life as an artist:
Following her graduation from Rose School, Fink worked at Shu Uemura and worked on a couple of videos for Duran Duran. She eventually got around to starting a Deluxe beauty parlor with her sister. After a few years of hard work, Fink was able to put Delux on the map, which caught the eye of the global make-up brand, Avon. Fink was appointed as the company’s first global creative color director. While Fink enjoyed the office, which she took over in 2006 and stayed until 2012, she had other ideas on the back of her mind that needed attention. So, Fink left Avon in 2012 and started an organic, “natural” Jillian Dempsey line. The company that debuted in 2015 with a single product, Kohl Eyeliners has since expanded to include a few more. Lid Tints was introduced in 2016, Cheek Tints came out in early 2018 and the Gold Sculpting Bar was released in late 2018. As far as Fink is concerned, brands have too many product lines and she wants to keep hers short.
“Why do brands have to create an entire wasteful line of everything? As an artist or creator, we have a sense of what’s needed to help people. Why not create hero products that make sense so you can explain to your customers why they would want to wear them? I like to get lean and mean in my beauty routine.”
Jillian Fink is happily married to Patrick Dempsey. The pair met in 1994 shortly after Dempsey’s divorce from Rochelle Parker. Dempsey had come in for a haircut at Deluxe and Fink couldn’t believe it was him. Things moved slow between the pair and despite Dempsey liking Fink, it took him three years’ worth of haircuts to finally ask her out. Things moved on pretty quickly from there. Three months into the relationship and the pair moved in together.
Jillian and Patrick Dempsey tied the knot on July 31, 1999, at Dempsey’s family’s farmhouse in Maine. The pair welcomed their first child, daughter Tallula Fyfe, on the 20th of February, 2002. Tallula was followed by twins, Sullivan Patrick and Darby Galen, who were born on February 1, 2007.
Marriage Trouble & Sorting Out:
While things were working great for the pair, Jillian filed for divorce in 2015, a decision that shocked Patrick as much as it did his fans. But Jillian withdrew the papers in 2016 and the pair have been together ever since. Talking about the whole ordeal, Patrick revealed that he wasn’t ready to let go of his marriage.
Our marriage was not something I was prepared to let go of. I didn’t feel like we had done all the work. And we both wanted to do that work. That’s where it started.”
