When the TV series, The Witcher, was first announced to fans, a fair share of them were nervous. After all, the series was on the back of an amazing Witcher III, Video Game. However, when the series aired its first episode in 2019, all the doubts were put to rest. Everything, right from the setting to the cast and the action, was far and beyond what fans expected out of series. While Henry Cavil was the undoubted star of the series, it was Freya Allan who stole the spotlight. Freya portrayed the role of the runaway Cintran princess, Ciri. While the life of Ciri is on-screen for all to see, Freya’s not so much. In this article, we will take a closer look at the wiki-bio of Freya Allan.
Freya Allan was born on the 6th of September 2001. Born and raised in Oxfordshire, England, Freya attended Headington School in Oxford. After graduating high school, Freya continued her higher education and at the National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire. During her time at film school, Frey made an appearance in two short films, Bluebird and The Christmas Tree. The appearances helped Freya clear the requirements of film school, and she went onto study at the Arts University Bournemouth. During her time at Arts University, Freya played the role of Linda in the short film Captain Fierce.
After graduating from Art School in 2017, Freya landed a role as Young Minerva in the 2018 TV series, Into the Badlands. She then starred in the 2019 TV series, The War of the Worlds. However, her big break came in the 2019 TV series, The Witcher.
Getting the role of Ciri:
Even though we cannot imagine anyone other than Freya playing the role of Ciri, she revealed that she first auditioned for the role of Marilka on “The Witcher.” However, the producers ended liking her so much that they wanted Freya to star as Ciri.
“For me, I actually got another role, before I got the role of Ciri. I got the role of Marilka, and then, suddenly, I got a phone call saying that Lauren [Schmidt Hissrich], the showrunner and Alik [Sakharov], the director, were coming to London and they wanted to see me for Ciri. So, I did that audition, and then found that I got that role. So, it was this bizarre situation, where I got two roles in it.”
And while Freya had not read the books before playing a part in the TV series, she sees certain similarities between herself and Ciri. In an interview, Freya revealed that like Ciri, Freya unapologetically speaks her mind.
“Like Ciri, I never hesitated to say what I thought. Ciri’s ability to speak is one of the features that make her strong. She’s also a stubborn character. We are very similar in this respect.”
While Freya’s portrayal of Ciri was the highlight of the series, Freya did admit that she struggled with the emotional scenes at first.
“I think I struggled the most during the beginning of filming. We rehearsed very little and immediately started shooting. One of the first scenes we filmed has a very important part in Ciri’s story. It was a little scary but still very exciting. The scenes that needed Ciri to cry were especially difficult.”
At just 19 years of age, Freya is on the cusp of a bright career of herself. Apart from her comeback in the second season of the Witcher, Freya is set to star in an upcoming movie Gunpowder Milkshake and TV series, The Third Day.
