Diahnne Abbott was born on the 1st of January, 1945, in New York. Born and raised in New York, Abbott rarely talks about her family. While she did reveal that her family was from Antigua, not much is known about her siblings and parents.

But for all of Abbott’s success, she is not the only successful person in the family. Her cousin Gregory Joel Abbott, is a famous singer, composer, musician, and producer. On the academic side of things, Abbott graduated from a local high school in New York in 1963. Not much is known about her educational details and while Abbott did reveal that she took drama and acting courses early on, her alma mater remains a secret.

Professional career:

On the professional side of things, Abbott made her professional debut as an actress in the 1976 movie, Taxi Driver. Despite having a minor role in the movie, Abbott shone in her appearances and was cast as Jeanette Ross in the 1976 movie, Welcome to L.A. She followed her role in Welcome to L.A. with a short appearance in the movie, New York, New York. Having played the part of a Harlem Club singer in the 1997 movie, Abbott moved to bigger roles and was cast as Rita Keane in the 1983 movie, The King of Comedy. 1984 saw Abbott cast in the role of Susan in the movie, Love Streams. Roles died down for Abbott after that and she was next seen in the 1986 movie, Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life Is Calling. After a hiatus of four years, Abbott was next seen as Blanca Romero in the movie, Before Night Falls. Her final appearance was as Leah in the 2002 movie, Soliloquy.  

Primarily a movie person, Abbott never made appearances in movie series save her early appearances in the 1988 movie, Crime Story. Following her role in Soliloquy, Abbott never made an appearance in the movies and has since left mainstream media.

Dianne Abbott is best known for her marriage to star actor, Robert De Niro. The pair who first met while working on movies struck a lovely relationship during their early years. Prior to meeting De Niro, Abbott already had a daughter, Drena, from her previous relationship. Drena was later adopted by De Niro following the pair’s marriage in 1976. The pair also had a son, Raphael De Niro, in the same year they got married.
