Keeping her Secret
Christie Brimberry was born on the 25th of March 1972, in Dallas, Texas USA. Born and raised in Texas, it is difficult to say where Christie got her passion for cars. She has revealed little about her parents, and early life. It is unknown how and when Christie joined the Gas Monkey Garage. While the reality star has never mentioned her connection to Richard Rawling, the fact that her husband is Rawling’s hairstylist might have got something to do with her joining the crew. She was a regular cast member of Fast N’ Loud since the first season. Not afraid to get her hands dirty, Christie is the perfect fit for the Gas Monkey Garage. She is known amongst fans of the show for her kind demeanor and easy-going attitude.
Running around and tidying the things for her boss, Christie gained a peculiar name “Zookeeper.” Not that she works at an actual zoo, Christie served as an assistant to Richard Rawling at Gas Monkey Garage. Unlike a usual garage, Gas Monkey Garage is a place where Richard Rawlings and his crew work to bring classic cars back to life. Christie worked as the office manager, handling the accounting, scheduling, and customer service aspects of the business. She also had a knack for keeping Rawlings in line and dealing with the antics of the mechanics, especially Tom Smith, who often annoyed her with his loud and hyperactive behavior. Her name ‘Zookeeper’ actually comes as she kept things in order for workers referred to as monkey crews.
Christie Brimberry began her television career in 2012 when she joined the cast of Fast N’ Loud as the only female member of the Gas Monkey crew. She quickly became a fan favorite for her witty remarks, professional attitude, and friendly interactions with customers and co-workers. She also proved to be a valuable asset to the business, handling the paperwork, phone calls, emails, and social media accounts of Gas Monkey Garage. She often served as a mediator between Richard Rawlings and Aaron Kaufman, who frequently clashed over their creative visions and deadlines. She also occasionally participated in some of the car projects, such as driving a Ferrari F40 or riding a motorcycle.
Christie Brimberry’s television career was not without challenges, however. In 2016, she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, which spread to her lymph nodes and trachea. She underwent surgery to remove her thyroid gland and part of her trachea, followed by radiation therapy. She documented her journey on social media, sharing her struggles and victories with her fans. Talking about the surgery and recovery, Christie revealed:
“In the process, the nerve to my voice box was cut and I will have no voice for a while, maybe up to 6 months. I am at home, and I am OK. I have a tube in my throat, but I will get that removed today, and hopefully, it will start to heal QUICKLY! I will have to take radiation soon and hopefully, that will be the end”.
She received an overwhelming amount of support and encouragement from her family, friends, and followers. She also inspired many people with her courage and positivity. She eventually recovered from her cancer and returned to work at Gas Monkey Garage. Christie was declared cancer-free on the 4th of December 2017.
