Born to, chemical and aerospace engineer, Charles Alley and nurse Vivian Schmid, Cheryl spent most of her early life alongside her two sisters. Ever the energetic kid, Cheryl was active during her high school years and played soccer and badminton. Her interest in acting came around while Cheryl was still in high school and she made her debut at the age of 16 in the 1969 movie, Old Paint. The same year Cheryl was also cast in another short film, Deed of Daring-Do, which like Old Paint was directed by her future husband Ron Howard.

Professional Career:

While Cheryl’s career as an actor was off to a bright start, she wanted to finish her studies and graduate from high school which she did in 1971. She then went off to California State University, Northridge, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in geriatric psychology in 1975. Cheryl furthered her education and wrapped things up with a Master of Fine Arts degree in screenwriting in 1977.

After finishing the academic side of things, Cheryl made an uncredited appearance as The Reporter in Brown Hat in Ron’s newest comedy flick, Grand Theft Auto.
