Mike Horstman: Wiki-Bio, age, net worth, wife, kids, mountain men.
As the name suggests, Mountain Men documents the story of people who have been living in the mountains. While most people think living in the mountains means living close to it, the term has a slightly different meaning here. In Mountain Men, living in the mountain means living on the very edge of the mountains. Mike Hortsman is one of those people, who lives on Kodiak Island and has known the mountains most of his life. For more than 45 years, Mike has battled with the harsh climates of Kodiak. In this article, we will take a closer look at the wiki-bio of Mike Horstman.
Early Life:
Michael Paul Horstman was born on December 19, 1954, in Jonesville, United States. Mike graduated from Sendenhowa High School but chose not to go to college. While Mike’s parents don’t have a strong hunting background, one of his uncles William Horstman hunted small game and deer in the Adirondacks. Mike developed an interest in hunting during his adolescent years and often dreamt of going to Alaska for hunting. His interest was further heightened by Outdoor Magazines that documented Alaskan hunting adventures. By the age of 17, Mike had already killed his first bear and was gearing up for an adventure in Alaska.
Moving to Alaska:
In the mid-1970s, Mike’s passion took over and he made the journey to Alaska. He moved to Idaho for a few years and started working as a guide and horse packer for some years. Lured by the hunt, Mike ventured further deep and arrived at Kodiak Alaska. Right on the foot of the mountains, the small village was a perfect place for Mike.
Never the one for the suburbs, Mike made the journey to Eagle Ridge Harbor and has been living there ever since. Mike has been living in Kodiak since the winter of 1979 and has never thought of leaving the place. Backed by 40 years of experience in hunting, not only does Mike hunts for a living but also guides hunters for a better experience. A master bear guide, Mike also guides brown bear hunts for 11 weeks in a year. He does about three or four hunts in the spring, and two to three hunts in the fall. Mike is accompanied by his dog Adele in all of his hunts. He started leading hunting trips in 1973 and was promoted to the post of registered guide in Alaska in the mid-1980s.
Reality TV:
One of the legendary mountain men, Mike has been featured in several reality TV shows. His first appearance came in 2014 when he was featured in the reality TV series, The Hunt. The series lasted for a single season and featured the hunt for the Kodiak Brown Bear on the rugged island of Kodiak, Alaska. The show never took off and lasted for a single season. Mike’s second and most prominent appearance came in Mountain Men debuting in 2018 during season 7 episode 8 titled “Edge of the Earth.” He made appearances in 24 episodes until 2021. Not just a one-man show, over the years, Mountain Men has introduced several other naturalists and outdoorsmen such as Jason Hawk, Rich Lewis, Morgan Beasley, Marty Meierotto, Preston Roberts, Tom Oar, Eustace Conway, Jake Herak, Kidd and Harry Youren.
Mountain Men season 11 premiered on September 1, 2022, and Mike returned as a regular cast member adding more television credits to his name. During the episodes, as expected, Mike makes multiple journeys up and down the cliffs of Kodiak Island, and on one particular occasion, he climbs the highest peak to take down a mountain goat. His adventure also takes him to the south end of Kodiak Island looking for the largest bears on earth.
Personal Life:
Wife & Kids:
Mike has no recorded history of dating, marriage, or any relationships. Prying through his Facebook will let you with nothing about his personal relationship but more about his hunting experience. His posts on the platforms are about his adventure on the Kodiak Islands as he explores the mountains & waters hunting bears, wild boars, mountain goats & small games, & fish.
Since he lives in Eagle Harbor, Alaska, alone with no wife or children it is assumed Mike does not have grandkids too. And at the age of 68, it is unlikely he will go for biological children of his own.
Body measurements & other traits:
Mike is 5 feet 11 inches tall approximately. Covered with grey and white busy beards his hair color is no different. Mike has grey eyes which show he is descended from a European family line. As a Sagittarius born, Mike’s astrological signs define him as a person having qualities such as being optimistic, lover of freedom, hilarious, fair-minded, honest, and intellectual.
