Leland is the son of Duane “Dog” Chapman, who is also a well-known bounty hunter and television personality. Leland grew up around the bail bonds business and began working for his father’s company, Da Kine Bail Bonds, in Hawaii at the age of 17.

In 2004, Leland and his family began starring in the reality television series Dog the Bounty Hunter, which aired on A&E.
