Her brother, Jonathan Silver, has been on the media a few times and seems to share a lovely relationship with Silver. On the academic side of things, Silver graduated from a local high school in The Bronx, before moving to California to attend California State University, Fullerton. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in communications and TV/film in 1999.

Professional Career:

Much like Van Dyke who is known for his work in different fields, Silver has enjoyed a diverse career. She began her career as the office manager for Stoney Road Productions in 2000. She stayed on the job until 2002 but also began working as a producer for XM Style, from 2001 until 2002. Even though Silver had a few jobs to look forward to, she worked as a freelance make-up artist and worked on a few movies including Caroline (2003), Men of Delta Force Salute (2007), and The Caretaker 3D in 2010. As her work started getting noticed in and around Hollywood, Silver was appointed as an instructor at El School of Professional Make-up from 2006 to 2009. At the same time, Silver also began working as an Aesthetician at the Lucas Echo Park Salon. She worked for a total of 5 years from 2006 to 2011. 

Personal Life:

Arlene Silver is happily married to Dick Van Dyke and the pair have been married since 2012. The pair first met at the SAG Awards as Silver was entering the green room after finishing the make-up on the models. And given how Silver had never watched Mary Poppins or much of his work, she was left confused if it was really him.

“I remember seeing Dick at the catering table with his bow tie and his big smile. Right when I sat down, he was sitting next to me. He said, ‘Hi, I’m Dick.’ The first thing I asked him was, ‘Weren’t you in Mary Poppins?’ I wasn’t sure. (Laughs) I knew who he was but I wasn’t sure why I knew who he was. I was not familiar with all his work. He has so much work I can’t believe I missed it.”

Van Dyke had a right laugh about the whole situation and the pair started out as friends. Dyke then hired Silver as a make-up artist for his Hallmark movies and the pair got so well that Silver never thought of the age gap. And while it took some time for Silver to come to terms with her feelings, she eventually got to the point.

“When we were working together on a movie, there was one time when we were doing a night shoot… and he was laughing like he always does, but it was the way he was lit or something — he had on a sweater and I thought, ‘Wait a minute!’ (Laughs) I just felt a little different.”

The pair tied the knot in 2012 and have been together ever since. The wedding ceremony was held in Malibu, California.
